ModelPro is the result of VIDI's engineering technology and years of computer graphics experience. It is recognized as being the most powerful 3-D modeling software on the Macintosh (and many say it rivals anything on a workstation). We have taken the design style of 2-D illustration programs like Freehand and Illustrator and the precision of 3-D CAD to produce a new design paradigm we call 3-D illustration. Plus it offers our powerful "Digital Clay" sculpting feature for pushing, pulling, bending or twisting 3-D shapes to produce 3-D designs and forms characteristic of high-end workstation programs. This rounds out ModelPro as the premier 3-D design tools on the Mac.
In addition to the best spline-based modeling capability, powerful Boolean options, ModelPro offers ease of use and productivity enhancement to both professional and novice users. A frequent complaint among most novice users is "being lost in 3D space". VIDI not only offers the four-window interface it introduced to the Macintosh for maximum control over 3D positioning and visualization, but also provides: the ability to set depth of field in any view with just the push of the space bar, on-the-fly-snaps; rulers and a variety of grid options; Illustrator-like spline and drawing tools with direct key commands; and the ability to select vertices in any window, including the 3D window, and dragging to any other window view. It offers the most intuitive "in-place" with preview controls over extrude, lathe, loft (skin), path extrude, bevel extrude, and sweep. It offers the most powerful hierarchical grouping and library controls that are made easy with automatic name assignment to any object or group created and a structure that follows the standard Macintosh file and folder structure.
ModelPro offers:
1) The richest set of 3-D modeling tools available on the Mac, including:
-
Boolean Cut, Join, and Intersect for creation of complex objects out of basic shapes.
-
Bending, to create smooth bends in complex 3D shapes like an umbrella handle.
-
Twisting, for easily creating forms like the blades of a propeller or fan.
-
Tapering of any 3D object, like the point of a pencil.
-
Path extrusion that smoothly adheres to spline paths for shapes like neon tubing, hoses/pipes, and beveled edges on text are much simpler to create.
2) Of particular interest to industrial and product designers is ModelPro's new Statistics palette, which dynamically calculates the volume and area of a 3D object. For instance, as a designer makes changes to a bottle by reshaping the diameter of the neck, the Statistics palette will reflect the change in volume simultaneously. Other key features of the Statistics palette include:
-
Dry or Liquid volume allows designers to create containers to hold a specific volume of dry material, like powder or food, or a liquid like soda or water.
-
Surface area measures the outside surface area of an object and dynamically reflects changes. This is useful for knowing how much paint it will take to cover an object.
-
Surface thickness/volume calculates how much material will be required to produce an object based on a specified thickness. For instance, a designer has completed a glass bottle design; upon entering the thickness of the glass, Presenter Professional will estimate how much glass is required to actually produce the bottle.
3) An interface that adheres to Macintosh standards and offers an intuitive 3D design paradigm with the resulting ease of learning and use.
4) Professional 3D spline-based design, smoooth shaded, multiple lightsource, preview render, and accurate move and snap options.
